Den russiske komedien Sjakkfeber (eng. Chess Fever, russisk: Shakhmatnaya goryachka) fra 1925 ble laget på den sovjetiske filmens storhetstid. På denne tiden lagde Eisenstein, Kulesjov og Pudovkin filmer som ingen filminteressert kommer utenom: Panserkrysseren Potemkin, Streik, Oktober, Moren …
Sjakkfeber (regi: Vsevolod Pudovkin) hører ikke til de største filmene fra denne epoken, men det er en morsom film og et viktig tidsdokument. Det er en film som eksperimenterer med klippeteknikk. For sjakkinteresserte (finnes det noen av dem igjen?) er det morsomt å se sjakk bli fremstilt som et kjempeproblem, ja faktisk den viktigste årsaken til konflikter i ekteskapet! For sjakkhistorisk interesserte kan det være interessant å se glimt av Capablanca, Marshall, Reti og Torre.
